The key to sound health and mind is ‘balanced diet’, which contain all the necessary nutrients such as proteins, vitamins, carbohydrates, fats, minerals and salts, in right quantities. Eating breakfast is also a vital part of a healthy diet. A small guide to keep you healthy as well as active includes: -
- Eat a large variety of nutritious foods, vegetables, fruits, cereals and legumes. Always eat low salt foods, and use salt cautiously. Avoid the foods containing added sugars.
- Do a lot of physical activity to balance workout and food intake in order to maintain a healthy body weight.
- Keep fat to a minimum. Avoid the things containing saturated fats, as they can raise blood cholesterol level.
- Intake of polyunsaturated and mono-unsaturated fats in small quantities may provide some health benefits.
- Eat less high kilojoule foods, and increase the amount of plant foods, which will provide essential nutrients and lessen the amount of fat in your diet.
- Consume foods, which contain iron and calcium. Calcium is very necessary for small babies, women and girls, whereas iron is essential for women, girls, vegetarians and athletes.
- Drink alcohol in moderation. Men should drink less than two standard drinks per day and women less than one standard drink per day. Alcohol should not be given to children.
- Don’t skip breakfast because it is very important to remain active for the whole day.
